The Metropolitan North Station Fire Department visited Unican for the second time on January 14, 2025, as part of a joint effort to promote safety and risk prevention in the industrial environment.

The collaboration between the company and the Fire Department is an example of how industry can work hand in hand with emergency services to create a safer environment for employees, neighbors, and asset protection. Through these initiatives, the goal is to raise awareness about the importance of prevention in the face of any eventuality.
Since the plant does not have a fixed fire suppression system and only has mobile fire extinguishers, four hydrants fed by a Siamese connection were installed on the exterior in October of the previous year. These hydrants are strategically located on the plant's perimeter to facilitate quick and efficient access for firefighters in an emergency. Additionally, the visit allowed firefighters to become familiar with the plant's infrastructure layout, optimizing response efforts in case of an incident.
During the visit, the firefighters arrived with all the units from the nearest station, including motorized equipment that responded to vehicle fires on the country’s main routes.
"We are very proud to have welcomed our local heroes to our facilities to work side by side in case of an emergency and to offer them our premises for practice drills. We still have a long way to go, but we know we are moving in the right direction. During the visit, the safety of our employees and the surrounding environment is our top priority," commented José Perdomo, general manager.
These best practices are expected to be replicated in other operations within the organization.
